Now that the Variety ad has been published and The Hollywood Reporter is due to be soon... I thought I'd create a thread for the press coverage that is coming in. We can include blogs such as worldpress who cover the genre and the campaign.
Many of these have started popping up in our "Is LotS cancelled" thread, but this way, we can have them all one place.
Feel free to add as you see new coverage.
New Press Release:
'Legend of the Seeker' Fan-Driven Campaign Garners Momentum with an Advert Published in Variety
Fans rise up to contribute to the "Save Our Seeker" campaign resulting in the first ad being published in Variety magazine, and a slew of additional activities in support of a third season of 'Legend of the Seeker.'
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
PR Log (Press Release) – May 07, 2010 – The “Save Our Seeker” fan-created, full-page advertisement went to print today, May 7th, and was published in 'Daily Variety.' Also to be featured on variety.com. The insert is a statement of support for a third season of 'Legend of the Seeker,' as well as a thank you to executive producers Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert, and the phenomenal cast and crew for taking their fans on an "epic journey," as mentioned in the ad.
Since the report on April 26, 2010 that the series had been canceled, 'Legend of the Seeker' fans decided to take action in an effort to encourage ABC Studios and other potential networks to pick up the series for a third season. Fan support from around the world poured in immediately, resulting in funds raised within three days through the "Save Our Seeker" campaign for a full page ad in 'Daily Variety.' To date, there has been no official press release from ABC Studios confirming that the show is canceled.
'Legend of the Seeker' fans are not without talent, thus a call was put forth for design entries and a number of talented graphic artists submitted their wonderful ad ideas for consideration. The submissions were eventually narrowed down to four, giving the fans the opportunity to vote for their favorite ad. The winning design, created by Miriam Kintscher, is the representation of the fans' sentiment.
The fanbase fervor does not end with the Variety ad. Having raised over $9,000, the "Save Our Seeker" campaign will also buy an advertisement in 'The Hollywood Reporter.' In the meanwhile, fans continue to work around the clock: sending postcards and letters to ABC, contacting the media, and encouraging everybody to purchase the series on both iTunes and DVD format – Season One and pre-ordering Season Two. On May 3rd, the Season Two DVD was on Amazon.com Sales Rank: #70 in Movies & TV. Over the May 1st weekend, #SaveOurSeeker was trending number 6 worldwide on Twitter, and #LegendOfTheSeeker, number 2 worldwide.
A few entertainment press publications continue to report on the campaign efforts, including The Torch Online and TV Star.
“Two seasons wasn't near enough. We loved you all so very much,” Aleyna Dennis sings in her beautiful rendition, 'Hey There Seeker,' which is based on the 'Hey There Delilah' song by Plain White T's. 'Legend of the Seeker' fans are inspired by the previous successes of 'Chuck,' 'Jericho,' 'Firefly,' 'Star Trek' and 'Farscape' that have been saved by their loyal followers, to now spare no effort for what they love. With very few fantasy/adventure shows currently airing, 'Legend of the Seeker' fans feel that such a unique series as theirs should be treasured and renewed.
Please check the "Save our Seeker" website at www.saveourseeker.com for more information on how you can help, as well as be updated on the progress of the campaign.
Legend of the Seeker is based on "The Sword of Truth" books by Terry Goodkind, starring Craig Horner, Bridget Regan, Tabrett Bethell, Bruce Spence and Craig Parker; filmed against the backdrop of beautiful New Zealand. For current show times and dates, please visit: dadt.com/lots/.
