(Posting this in here too)
Posted by LOTS-Sponsor, April 26th/2010: I'm on my lunch break here so I will make it quick:
There will be an official announcement/press release in the next couple of weeks, if not sooner. No word on what this will cover.
There was a link posted here that it has been canceled. This has always been discussed as a last option. As of this morning, that had been mentioned, but some other things were mentioned as well.
Also, when season 2 is over and contracts are up for existing television stations, expect to see either another marathon, or re-runs of seasons 1 and 2 on SyFy.
They are also prepping season 2 for DVD a.s.a.p. and potentially a Blu Ray with extra bonus material not found in the DVD release. forums.legendoftheseeker.org/showthread.php/2214-ABC-Disney-close-to-deal-for-3rd-season-of-LOTS/page13
Okay, I'm in SHOCK like everyone else by EW's unofficial report, but after reading the above message from LOTS_Sponsor, I admit that I'm very intrigued by some of his hints...guess I'm just Not ready to give up my hope quite yet... (If it was a done & final decision to cancel at their Sponsors meeting this morning, why would other options even be mentioned??....)
Come on ABC & Disney!! (and SyFy??), PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE!!!
(the mention of SyFy again, makes me feel that we should be flooding them with even more tweets/emails/letters!!! And the Sponsors too!! )

Oh man this sucks so bad. It's the horrible schedule they had on it this year. Here in Los Angeles it airs on Sundays at 4pm. Last year it aired on Saturdays at 5pm for the first half and then 6pm for the second half. It was just a better time slot and that's when Xena and Hercules aired too back in the day.

LOTS_Sponsor replied: "Yes, but only if Disney is willing to come down in price."

Screw those damn rich a$$holes at Disney! I've had it with them! They better come off their damn high horse and lower the cost or we're coming after 'em! They've got almost billions coming in and they can't lower cost?! Ugh, I officially hate Disney and their damn rich corporate peeps who won't work harder to make the show continue! Let's flood the peeps inboxes with emails!

Paper letters are better, but if you are doing e-mails, include your physcial address so that they can see you are a "real" person.
Can always do both!!!!!

From LOTS_Sponsor:
ABC/Disney has done a lot of work especially when shopping the show to various networks.
From what I understand SyFy wants/wanted the show badly. However, the main reason SyFy “passed” on new, first run episodes at this time was because Disney wanted to much money per episode and SyFy was not willing to pay the amount they wanted. Sadly, unless this changes, all we can expect at this time is to see the Seeker return to SyFy in re-run form.

Posted by queenb13 Can someone tell me if this decision was made because the ratings were slipping during season 2? I thought that for much of the season this year, the ratings were higher than last year. I know there has been a slip over the early part of 2010, but I was of the opinion that was due to other timing/scheduling conflicts, like the Olympics, Easter, ball games, etc. I never understood why they took their 2-3 week breaks when there were no conflicts rather than when there were.
Anyway, I was wondering if ratings have really decreased over last year (I cannot understand that - season 2 is so much better), or due to ratings that are consistently decreasing over this season, or the ratings were never high enough even at their highest...
LOTS_Sponsor: Ratings were involved to an extent. When Tribune announced they would not be renewing the show, everything started to go down hill from there. Ratings were down some, and the Tribune network would have still carried Legend of the Seeker if Disney had lowered the price of the episodes, but they could not justify the price that Disney wanted for the somewhat declining ratings of Legend of the Seeker. Tribune and Disney talked, but could not reach any agreement, which is when Disney started to shop the show.
As to why there will be no season 3, at the moment is because Disney is asking for a lot of money on a per episode basis that is too high in the eyes of networks, even for a big one such as SyFy, which is part of NBC/Universal. Disney will probably never admit the demise of the show was because of the money, but that is the issue.
Yes, they shopped the show, but at a high price. Disney needs to learn that their greed is ruining a show that has great potential. What Disney needs to do is to lower the asking price to where they are still making a reasonable profit. However, it seems they are willing to sacrifice a fantastic show for the almighty dollar.
Posted by The Old One: So does this mean there's no hope, or if we keep fighting we'll have a chance, LOTS_Sponsor?
LOTS_Sponsor:
I would NEVER say there is no hope as I’m as big of a fan as the next person, but unless Disney changes their attitude, then sadly, probably not, as far as another season goes.
Unless Disney is willing to lower their asking price, and some last minute deal comes to the table, the only way Legend of the Seeker will return at a later date with a new adventure, is if Season 2 sells well above expectations on DVD, and the potential Blu Ray release meets their goals.
Also, when SyFy does air Seasons 1 and 2, and if the ratings are strong enough for SyFy to take notice, this will have an impact as well. At this point SyFy and Disney would partner and split the costs, rather than Disney paying for most of the production themselves and then selling the show to SyFy. However, it would most likely not be another season, but rather a mini-series. I was not told when SyFy will start showing Seasons 1 and 2. Just that they have to wait before existing contractual agreements have ended before anyone else can show it.
forums.legendoftheseeker.org/showthread.php/2491-R.I.P-Legend-of-the-Seeker?p=49451#post49451
(Sounds like we need to Politely encourage Disney to lower their costs for the sake of LotS and the fandom. Or try to convince SyFy and/or Tribune to pay their asking price. We also need to buy the DVD releases like crazy, and when SyFy airs any Seeker eppys, Watch them and be sure to let Syfy know we are )
A few fans even suggested that we raise funds to help keep the Series, not sure how that would work?, but I'd be game!! ;D
