Since Facebook has done away with all Discussion Threads now, I thought I'd move some of them here to direct new Seekers to in order to hopefully answer some of the questions that are asked quite a lot
**Learn why Tribune Broadcasting didn't renew 'Legend of the Seeker'**
>From Michael of SeekerWordPress
May 4, 2010
I honestly cannot speak for the Tribune Station Group, but it appears to me — after having done some research — that Tribune’s inability to pay its bills was the prime cause behind their decision not to renew 'Legend of the Seeker'.
In order to understand the history behind the situation better, I have just compiled a list of news stories about Tribune’s bankruptcy and financial problems.
As far back as December 2008, it was reported that the syndicated shows carried by the Tribune group might be dropped.
It was really only a matter of time because Tribune simply could not afford to pay its bills.
They have now asked for approval of a restructuring plan that has alarmed some of their creditors (who are challenging the plan).
Tribune’s problems began in 2007, when realtor Sam Zell arranged billions of dollars in debt to buy the company. The economy then tanked, the news industry lost massive revenues, and the Tribune Station Group lost advertising revenues. Tribune fell behind in servicing its debt and therefore had to declare bankruptcy.
Zell’s buyout of the company will now be investigated by an examiner appointed by the U.S. Trustee overseeing the bankruptcy proceedings.
Tribunes former CEO, Randy Michels, resigned on Friday and he has been replaced by Jerry Kersting, who has worked with Michels since the buyout.
Kersting was also in charge of the station group.
I won’t guess whether there will be changes in Tribune’s strategic policy making — they are not out of the woods yet and have to come up with a business plan that will satisfy the bankruptcy process.
We’re probably lucky we got a second season of 'Legend of the Seeker'.
NOTE:
Fox dropped 'The Family Guy' for a couple of years and then picked the show back up after it sold 2 million DVDs. So even if ABC kills the show, there may still be a chance if we can buy enough DVDs. "

AIR TIMES
Each individual station that purchased LotS decided what time to air the show (Seekers were encouraged to write to their local station and ask for a different time if they thought it would be better.)
Many Seeker fans still do not know anything about the LOTS situation (we encourage all Seekers to spread the word about the "Save Our Seeker" Campaign )
It's not only the donations that help, it's informing other Seekers and getting NEW fans for the show to make our voice louder

RATINGS
From what I understand, Seeker got the same ratings or higher than most of the shows on The CW network (which is great considering the time slots for LotS were unusual, and the show had limited publicity)
When Tribune claimed bankruptcy, ABC*Disney thought they had a deal with the SyFy USA network, but SyFy changed their minds at the last minute
(see more on this below)
That's when our 'Save Our Seeker' Campaign began.
We'd love your help with the Campaign

LOTS COSTUMES BEING SOLD
Our FB member, Denise, tells us that every show sells off items (some items get worn out and need to replaced, that it costs more to store them than to replace them, etc...).
Dayna (Bridget's stunt double) tells us that there are usually many versions of each item made (they are even numbered), and that their talented people can create more items at any time
Here's a couple of Dayna's tweets:
"they will have to make a new one for season 3, talented people out there"
"...dont give up hope, Fight for what you believe, things change!!!!!"
(She herself auctioned off some of the extra items, with proceeds going to child cancer, so that the Seeker is still helping to save lives )
>Bridget tweets about having more than one outfit here:
"Yup that is an actual actual costume that I wore. There were a few (I tended to beat the blank out of them...) "

SYFY & CRAIG HORNER
From what I understand, when Tribune claimed bankruptcy and didn't pick up the distribution rights for LOTS, ABC*Disney then had serious talks with SYFY, but SyFy changed their minds for a variety of unknown reasons:
(Craig Horner also speculated that SyFy were concerned with the illegal downloading of the show: www.popstar.com/News/Shows/Article/449 )
After SyFy didn't pan out, the time-frame for networks to pick up shows had passed, and the 'Journey Book' Fan Campaign was created to get the attention of other networks/studios and request that they pick up LotS
We hope that you join us in writing to them so when the next opportunity arises for networks/studios to pick up series, they consider Seeker

>Craig Engler of SYFY's tweet:
"Legend of the Seeker fans, we considered LOTS seriously, but for a variety of reasons, we unfortunately had to pass on the show."
>Excerpt from Popstar's interview with Craig Horner:
Once it became evident that Tribune Station Group -- the show's primary broadcaster in the U.S. -- would not support a third season, executives at the show's production company did their best to shop Legend of the Seeker to other venues, obviously to no avail.
"All The Heads went over to Syfy and tried to pitch it to them," Horner said. "Man, I wish they'd told me. I would have gone over there. I would have charmed them. I would have charmed the pants off of them. I'd have gone, 'Come on, guys, how can you not let this show again?' I would've shown them all the Internet comments. I would've gone, 'Come on, these people want to see this show again.' I would've done it, but they didn't tell me. But they really tried.
They went over. They pulled out all the facts. They pulled out a lot of Internet results. Unfortunately, Internet results don't speak to money heads of studios.
They might go great, 'Great, it's got a lot of viewers, but season three, they'll just download again.' So I think they really tried. I can't say they didn't. I know there were others, but I know they had a nice big meeting with Syfy and Syfy came very, very close."
Meanwhile, just the looming threat of cancellation sent the Legend of the Seeker fan base into overdrive in an effort to save their beloved series. They lobbied ABC Studios and the Walt Disney Company, which produced the show and Syfy, the most logical potential new home. They raised funds and took out an expensive ad in a Hollywood trade paper. "That was great," Horner said warmly. "I was so very pleased. It was so nice, so sweet. I was all for it. People were coming up with great ideas, like Syfy. They were mentioning the BBC, saying they could run it in between Robin Hood and Doctor Who. That would be perfect. How awesome would that be?..."
Legend of the Seeker will live on in Terry Goodkind's books. And surely Horner and his co-stars, including Bridget Regan, Bruce Spence, and Tabrett Bethell, will make the rounds on the still-thriving sci-fi/fantasy convention circuit.
But, in the meantime, there's something about Horner's word choice -- "If it doesn't go again..." -- that seems to leave at least a glimmer of hope that maybe, perhaps the show isn't dead, dead, dead. And the promos for "Tears" only refer to it as a season finale, not a series finale.
So, is there no chance? Should the fans stop trying to secure a renewal?
"I don't know," Horner replied. "I really can't say that. My mom thinks it's going to go again. She sent me a message this morning saying, 'Big announcement.' She's a little bit of a clairvoyant. She likes to think it will (be back), but who knows?"
