Hi, Seeker fans!
I wanted to let you all know that I'm organizing a campaign to get Craig nominated for TIME Person of the Year. I've posted the details at the Save The Seeker blog but here is the lowdown straight from me to you.
We know this great show has been cancelled but we're still fighting on. In the spirit of the Seeker we've adopted the slogan "Never Give Up!"
I feel that's a fantastic message to be sending out to people this year, a year in which:
A lot of people have expressed support for the Save The Seeker campaign. The fans who have come out to support the show have demonstrated the kind of perseverence Terry Goodkind has asked of us.
So why not organize a campaign to get Craig on the cover of TIME (as the Seeker, obviously)? This is not about Craig it's about the idea of fighting on when it seems like everything is going against you. That's the purpose of the campaign.
The TIME editors don't pick their nominees until November, so here is the plan:
Step 1: We get organized. I'm asking people to create mockup TIME magazine covers (look at the Save The Seeker blog for an example).
Step 2: We publish those mockups EVERYWHERE -- on blogs, in forums, on personal Websites. Create image galleries.
Step 3: When I feel there is enough momentum going, I'll start getting some blogs to write about the campaign.
Step 4: I will publish a press release on one of the expensive services, a service that reaches the news media. This doesn't guarantee that any journalists will notice or pick up the story, but it gets us some visibility in the right places.
Step 5: We start sending requests to TIME's editorial staff to consider Craig for the nomination.
WHY CRAIG?
Several fans are already asking why they can't press for Bridget or Cara or Bruce or the whole show. In fact, you CAN. I chose Craig because the idea came to me while I was reading John Battelle's blog (he's a big tech industry media muckety muck). Battelle mentioned in passing that he thinks the iPad might get TIME'S "Person of the Year" this year.
I thought, "Oh my God -- not another machine!" I just absolutely hated when TIME picked the PC for its "Person of the Year". I thought that was so stupid and such an incredible copout.
TIME's editors have been making this annual choice for decades. Supposedly, they want to pick someone (or some group) that has inspired people in an above-average way; people who have achieved something exceptional.
I think the Seeker fandom is capable of showing everyone that this is not just another TV show -- it's a GREAT TV show that a lot of people miss and that we all feel is worth fighting for.
In an increasingly bleak television landscape, Legend of the Seeker showed us that you can talk about high ideas (right versus wrong) and epic struggles without having to stick your tongue in your cheek, act goofy, or do any of the other stupid things so many genre shows have done.
It's a rare fantasy TV show that isn't ashamed to put itself up as a real fantasy show. LOTS is a breath of fresh air.
This campaign is not really about saving the show. You can create a "Save Our Seeker" TIME mockup cover if you wish but the message I am asking people to send to TIME and everyone else is that the idea of Never Give Up! is worthy of recognition. It's relevant to our time. And it's a whole lot more compelling than the iPad.
I hope you're with me. Other Seeker fans are joining the cause. People at LiveJournal, LegendoftheSeeker.Org, and Twitter are pitching in. I've been reposting images at my own science fiction forum, SF-Fandom.
Please do this.

So what do you say? Do you feel like putting Craig on the cover of TIME? If not Craig, then anyone?

I feel that's a fantastic message to be sending out to people this year, a year in which:
- The United States marks its longest engagement in a war in history (Afghanistan)
- The largest man-made environmental catastrophe (the Gulf of Mexico oil spill) has occurred
- The world economy is threatened with a second major recession less than a year after the previous one (because of European banking problems and now American student loan banking problems)
A lot of people have expressed support for the Save The Seeker campaign. The fans who have come out to support the show have demonstrated the kind of perseverence Terry Goodkind has asked of us.
